New Borns

Ahhhh, so safe and warm.

We knew the day the chicks hatched but we didn’t actually see them until they were four days old.  Mom and Dad doves are experts at keeping their vulnerable chicks away from curious and possibly dangerous eyes.

4 days old.

Doves co-parent in raising their chicks; taking turns sitting on them while the other is out finding food.  They change jobs twice a day.

Papa returning with breakfast, it’s now his turn to babysit.

As the chicks grow the parents have to fluff themselves out to try to conceal them.
