It’s not easy letting go of summer, even in mid-October, or really it’s the summer at the sea that I don’t want to put to bed yet til next May. We squeezed in one last afternoon on the beach on Friday, leaving work early to arrive in Santa Cruz while the sun still shone. You never know until you arrive at Northern California beaches whether the sun or the fog is king. We were lucky because it was a beautiful sunny and warm enough day to linger in our beach chairs for a couple of hours. Even though I attempted to believe it was still summer, the lower tilt of the sun, the cooler breeze and the birds far outnumbering the sunbathers, gave it away that fall had permanently settled in. It was lovely.
